Animal feed

Grinding grains for animals

The animal feed industry has its origins in traditional windmills. Today, electrically powered pellet mills are used, and grains are primarily cooled in counterflow coolers. To remove dust from the cooling air, a bag filter is typically used that meets current strict dust emission standards. After this, the air is finally exhausted outdoors.

Measures for odour reduction

Initially, the animal feed industry built taller chimneys as a measure to reduce odors. This didn’t always adequately address the problems, especially as feed production capacity per factory increased significantly.

Multiple production lines

Aerox has developed specific odor reduction solutions for the animal feed industry. A plant typically operates multiple pellet lines with approximately 15,000 to 25,000 m³/h of cooling air per line. A single compact Aerox Injector can be installed per pellet line, or several production lines can be combined and treated with a single Aerox Injector. In practice, this can amount to a varying number of lines with a total airflow of up to 240,000 m³/h.

Sustainable solution

Because the Aerox-Injector can operate at various capacities, unnecessary power consumption is prevented when not all pellet lines are in operation. This benefits the environment and reduces operating costs.

Fish and shrimp food

In the fish and shrimp feed production process, pellets are often conveyed to the dryer via pneumatic conveying. After drying, the pellets fall into the cooler. Other sources of odor include the air released during extrusion, drying, and cooling. The amount of air that needs to be neutralized per pellet line depends, among other things, on whether the air from the cooler is recycled to the dryer.

Multiple production lines

A single compact Aerox Injector can treat the entire air volume from an entire production line. Often, it’s even possible to treat combined airflows from multiple production lines with just one Aerox Injector.

Pet food odours

Dry food production generates many unpleasant odors during the extrusion and drying process, which inevitably find their way up the chimney. Sometimes the grinding machines also contribute to the odor.

Treatment of exhaust air

Extracting oil from seeds begins with pressing the oil from the seeds using presses. The oil is then extracted from the residue by adding the solvent hexane using another press (“cold pressing”). The seed remains are pelletized or ground. Drying and cooling are necessary for this process. The resulting air has a strong odor, which can be successfully treated with the Aerox Injector.

Aerox has developed a safe technology to treat air containing hexane.

Destroy residual odours

In most systems, water-soluble odors and most fine dust particles are first removed from the exhaust air with a scrubber. An Aerox Injector can remove residual odors. After drying, the flour is cooled. The Aerox Injector can also treat this exhaust air.

The Aerox Injector offers significant safety advantages over other cold plasma technologies when it comes to deodorizing air containing toxic hexane. Numerous European food processing plants have chosen the Aerox Injector for this reason in recent years.

Fine powders and grains

Cheese powder for pizza or flavors like garlic are produced using spray dryers. The exhaust air from these drying systems contains a very high odor concentration, which can be detected for miles. The thermal processing techniques (puffing and extrusion) required for grain production emit strong, undesirable odors, which often lead to complaints from the surrounding area.

The Aerox-Injector is a sustainable technology that requires no chemicals, fuel, or water.

Removing food odours

Food odors can be effectively removed by an Aerox Injector. The system is custom-built using the required materials (SS304). It is installed at the end of the production line, just before the air exhaust leaves the factory. Depending on production conditions, a single Aerox Injector can handle airflows of up to 240,000 m³ per hour.

No fuels or chemicals

In recent years, Aerox has conducted numerous pilot projects worldwide to compare the effectiveness of our technology with technologies like biofilters and air scrubbers. In all cases, the Aerox Injector achieved at least the same, but often higher, odor reduction, without the use of chemicals, fuels, or (waste)water.

Neutralize rubber odour

The mixing machine mixes raw materials such as rubber, carbon black, and chemicals into a rubber compound. This process releases numerous odors, which are released into the air through the chimney.

The Aerox Injector can eliminate > 85% of the rubber odor emanating from the mixing machine.

Emissions from rubber production

The tires are cured in a vulcanizing press. The press’s high temperature releases rubber odors. While these are less strong than those produced by the mixing machine, their environmental impact is greater. The vulcanizing presses emit up to 90,000 m³/h per production line. The Aerox-Injector minimizes air pollution from the presses.
